A soul’s transition has begun, and for those left behind
only grief, disbelief, and anger, with a crushing sadness
that has opened a lonely chasm.
I have been chosen for this role, a sacred and heavy obligation.
I am the mediator, the Bridge-Keeper, the spirit guide,
the Psychopomp.
So, I unclothe my own heart to be a wellspring of compassion,
setting aside all judgment, releasing my own emotional ties,
breathing only the river’s purity.
My role is to escort this soul across this ancient, worn bridge,
that leads from the steep banks of grief, where all the sorrow crowds,
to the brilliant, waiting light, where love stands with open arms.
